Are the subfloor kits specially fit for each van model?
Yes. The kits are designed and cut specifically for the base models of all common campervan vehicle platforms. If we don't have a vehicle model or length that you would like, please Contact Us and we can discuss a custom order.
What's special about Baltic Birch Plywood?
Contrary to popular belief, Baltic Birch is not special because its manufactured in the Baltic region (its not actually made there) but because of its very tight layer density, and number of ply-layers per sheet. A common 1/2" plywood from a big box store may only have 3-4 layers of wood, whereas a 1/2" sheet of Baltic Birch Plywood has 9 layers. Each layer's grain direction changes by 90º, which makes Baltic Birch incredibly strong for its thickness, as well as dimensionally stable so you get significantly less expansion/contraction in joints over varying temperatures. The tight layer density also makes Baltic Birch really strong for holding threaded fasteners, allowing you to use threaded inserts and bolt parts of your van conversion directly to the subfloor without needing to drill through the entire van.
What type of insulation do you use?
We use 1.5" high compression strength XPS foam which provides R7.5 insulation value and a comfortable and sturdy base for your van conversion.
Are the insulation and baltic birch subfloor already laminated together as 1 piece?
Yes, each panel is 1 piece of foam and 1 piece of plywood that have already been laminated together for you. That way you have half as many pieces to install, which means half as much glue to lay down, half as many trips in and out of the van, and half as much time to install!
How do I attach the subfloor to my van?
Your subfloor kit will come with a 3M 760 adhesive in a "sausage tube" caulking package. You'll need to separately purchase a sausage tube caulking gun, which you can find easily available on Amazon at this link here.
How do I finish the floor once the insulated subfloor is installed?
This is where you get to have some creative freedom! Truthfully, you can finish it however you want.
We highly recommend using a CNC cut finish floor from 2Tec2 or Lonseal because their contours are cut to match our subfloor, and since they come in a roll as one piece, install is even easier than the subfloor! These options are specifically designed to be used in campervans with high-traffic and dirt in mind. Both 2Tec2 and Lonseal are incredibly popular for van builds because of their superior durabiltiy, ease of maintenance, and high performance characteristics.
Many people will opt for a cheap Luxury Vinyl Planking (LVP) floor from their local big box store, however we recommend using something meant for van floors specifically to ensure you have a quality finish that lasts as long as your van. LVP has a reputation for easy scratches as well as getting dirt between seams, causing cracks to appear and ultimately failure. These floors also tend to warp in direct sunlight, also causing premature failure.
Can I safely mount DOT approved seats to the subfloor?
If done correctly, absolutely. This means the seat needs to be through-bolted all the way through the van floor with a washer and nut on the bottom side, and tightened to torque specifications from the seat manufacturer, making sure that the metal of the seat base is contacting metal of the van body. This means you must cut out the subfloor and insulation where the seat will be mounted, and the seat base will sit below the top of the subfloor.
If you want the seat to be level with the top of the subfloor, we recommend having custom metal spacers made to lift the seat base up to the desired height to match your finish floor.
Or, you can install one of the many popular L-Track systems, utilizing all of the factory bolt holes, following factory install specifications of L-track and adhere to proper factory manufactured L-track seat base systems.

How is it packaged and shipped to me?
The subfloors are packed in a wooden crate with remnants of foam insulation used as padding to prevent damage to the floor panels.
That crate gets picked up by a freight company at our warehouse in San Diego, CA, and then shipped to your location (business or residential). You do not need a forklift to receive the crate. The delivery truck will have a liftgate. But, you should plan on having 1-2 friends help you be able to move the crate from where the truck drops off to where you are building the van.
If the crate is too heavy to move all at once, or you have to move it alone, then you'll need to disassemble the crate and move pieces one by one.
How soon can you get a subfloor kit to me?
Vamonos Vans DIY Kits are made to order. Depending on how busy our manufacturing team is, standard delivery times are between 2-4 weeks.
